Make hay while the sun shines, even if it's not totally to your taste
The past week of pure sunshine must have got even the most stern homebody hermits outdoors. There was the odd morning when I rose, peeked between the curtains and internally said “Oh no, not another glorious day”. You see I was indoctrinated at an early age that if it was a stunner day you had to be out making the most of it. When it’s gloomy and less than favourable out, then you are allowed to head for the mall, DVD parlour, junk-food outlet and curl up on the sofa. So this extended fine spell has had me ballistic with varied activity, not all on the party tip either. Read all about it in my weekly review... (click here).
In "The Evidence" on my website you'll find two fresh galleries of official Summadayze photos, courtesy of photographer Steve Field and Future Entertainment. There's also a couple of new galleries from last weekend's shenanigans too. Click here to have a look.

Wednesday January 16th
2 4 1 Cocktail Night Chow Restaurant, Cnr Sturdee St & Pakenham St East, Viaduct Harbour No Charge. 8pm – 3am
It’s opening night so will be humming. If you can make it tonight you must soon, whether for a beverage or a full-on meal. Every Wednesday is cocktail night, each one concocted by vintage pros with pleasure. Meet me down there at 10ish.
And/Or Escapism The Safari Lounge, 116 Ponsonby Rd, Ponsonby No Charge. 9pm – Late
Old School, and New School, Hip-Hop and R&B is thrown down by Peter James and my fav. NZ Hip-Hop bandit DJ CXL. The place has had a bit of a dicey rep over the last year or so, but I think it’s shaped up and worth a go.

Thursday January 17th
Dinner & a Movie The Kingslander, 470 New North Rd, Kingsland Tickets $35pp. Email info@thekingslander.co.nz to reserve your place. 7.30 – 10.30pm
The launch movie is Monty Python and the Holy Grail. From now on, every Thursday upstairs there will be a movie accompanied by, without a word of a lie, one of the best 3 course meals around. It’s private, social and unique. There’s even an intermission. Next week Ghostbusters plays, Tootsie and Dr Strangelove follow.
And/Or Lady Saw Galatos, 17 Galatos St, Newton Tickets $45 from Real Groovy, Beat Merchants or www.motherland.co.nz. 9pm – Late
I’d describe her sound as vigorous reggae rapping with a visible message. She’s won Grammies, gone triple platinum, is regarded as The Queen of Dancehall and is strip teasingly sexy. Supported by the ever talented OZ group The Versionaries, and NZ team Silva and DJ Furyus; it’ll be a goodie.

It’s been pumped up to such a proportion it may self combust. Imagine 300,000 people all going Bijork to hundreds of bands, DJ’s and wicked acts. I’d recommend blagging your way into corporate hospitality, it’s an achievement and has many rewards.
And/Or More FM Pro Beach Volleyball Tour The ASB Tennis Centre, 1 Tennis Lane, Parnell Tickets $20 from http://www.ticketek.co.nz/ or at the gate

Saturday January 19th
A1GP (Day 2) Taupo Motorsport Park, Broadlands Rd, Taupo Tickets $10 - $710. Got to www.a1gptaupo.com. 8am – 6pm
The A1GP World Cup of Motor-sport roars into picturesque Taupo for three thrilling days of motor-sport bliss. This unique nation versus nation series features equalised technology that creates a level playing field. 21 countries stand in the way of the NZ hope Jonny Reid’s path to glory at home, driving Black Beauty. The weekend also includes racing from NZV8’s, the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, Toyota Racing Series, Formula Fords, Mini Challenge and Production Racing.
And/Or Zoo Music: Evermore Auckland Zoo, Motions Road, Western Springs Tickets $12 - $27 from www.ticketmaster.co.nz. 6 – 9pm
Your ticket gets you into The Zoo too so come early for a wander, but don’t forget to bags your pozzie. This music series attracts the big crowds, whose chilly-bins and picnic rugs encircle the band rotunda. Evermore is one of NZ’s most successful musical exports in recent years achieving a number one single in Australia, over 300 live shows and an MTV Award. Evermore will be supported by infectious indie-rock quartet The Electric Confectionaires, and up and coming singer/songwriter Chris Sanders. A very pleasant way to spend an evening.
And/Or The Police. Feat. Fergie Western Springs Stadium, Stadium Rd, Western Springs Tickets $150 - $250 from www.ticketmaster.co.nz
The wait is over. The hottest concert of the summer is here. Sting, Stewart Copeland & Andy Summers are about to touch down in Aoteoroa. In 1977, The Police stormed the music scene by blending reggae, punk, jazz and rock. They created an unmistakable sound filled with evocative melodies, infectious lyrics and rock & roll swagger and now they’ve sold around 20 million albums. Supported by fresh (in comparison) pop sensation Fergie it’s no wonder why there are only a handful of tickets left.

Monday January 21st
Go see the movie: Cloverfield Most cinemas Tickets $8.50 - $14.50
Godzilla meets Blair Witch in this highly secretive blockbuster from the producer of the equally mysterious Lost TV series. The footage in the film is said to be culled from a videotape found in a handycam after “the incident”, and revolves around a group of young New Yorkers struggling to stay alive throughout the crisis. The exact nature of the beast has not been disclosed, and will not be revealed in any marketing material other than the movie itself. Curious?
