"Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop & look around once in a while you could miss it!"

The quote above is from one someone I take a lot of advice from. The one and only Ferris Bueller.

I haven’t had a bigger start to the weekend in a long time. Wednesday was uncommon and rather frightening. A group of friends got together, hired a bus and went to the old mental hospital in Karaka, that’s been taken over and modified into scare city, aka Spookers. I had never been before and had heard horror stories from past victims, so to say I was apprehensive was a horrendous understatement.

4 x double passes to 'Big Boys Toys' on at the ASB showgrounds this weekend. It gets bigger and better each year. It’s interesting for girls too. Mail me back with "BBT" in the subject line.

1 x single pass to my boat cruise happening this Friday called 'Blue'. It has sold out, but I have just had a friend tell me they can’t attend and to give it to someone else. So who wants it? Put "Blue" in the subject box and mail me back if you’d like to be on board.

2 x double passes to see the Harvey Norman Breakers play the Singapore Slingers at The North Shore Events Centre this Thursday. Send me a message back with "Breakers" as the header if you’d like to go. PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR MOBILE NUMBER.

2 x double passes to 'Sundown' dance party at Vilagrad Winery, Hamilton this Saturday. The place is dreamlike and the DJ’s are all the ones we love from up here, so it’ll be a goodie. Mail me back with "Vilagrad" as the header.

1 x double pass to see One Million Dollars play live at Leigh Sawmill this Saturday. This funky soul based band is on the way to international stardom. Message me with "$1,000,000" in the subject line to be in the draw.

To possibly win this cool pack, email me with "Movember" as the header.

Wednesday Movember 7th (Penelope’s 34th birthday)

Blue Denim
Denim Bar, 207 Parnell Rd, Parnell
No Charge. 9pm – Late

3 DJ’s, one cool bar and loads of fun party people. Denim is one of the only bars that still rocks on a Wednesday in Parnell.

Thursday Movember 8th

Dan Clarke Rocks
Nuffield St Brewbar, 23 Nuffield St, Newmarket
No Charge. 7 – 11pm

He’s played with big-time house and soul DJ’s around Europe, now he brings his skills to us. I’d say this would be more of a place to start your evening’s escapades.

And/Or
Sing Sing
The El Paradiso Pony Club, 55 Customs St, Auckland Central (Below Showgirls)
No Charge. But to be sure of entry email brooke@theponyclub.co.nz. 9pm – Late

After moving venue from Float Bar I wasn’t sure this night would survive, but it has, and got stronger. It’s a night where musos come and jam songs of all types and DJ’s play in-between. The people are full of beans and the booths are comfy. The mirrored walls can be a bit off putting sometimes though.

Friday Movember 9th

Big Boys Toys (begins)
ASB Showgrounds, Greenlane
Tickets $18 from www.iticket.co.nz, or on the door. 10am – 9pm

It’s the complete male lifestyle event and this is its 11th year. See, try and buy the brands you love and those that are up-and-coming from the consumer electronics, marine, fishing, outdoor pursuits, drive performance and lifestyle categories. BBT also hosts the NZ Motorcycle Show, and there's something for the ladies too at the ever-popular 'Girl-zone', plus loads of jaw-dropping action that will blow you away.

And/Or
Fluffy Grand Opening Night
Kiss Bar, 309 K’ Rd, Newton
No Charge before midnight, $10 on the door after

It’s a gay night at the newly supped-up Kiss Bar. There’s an emphasis on fluffy vocal and commercial dance music, and also fluffy cocktails, giveaways, podium dancers and other fun types of entertainment. The night is very accommodating for all, so don’t be shy, have fun.

And/Or
The Official Blue Boat Cruise After Party
Bubble Bar, Viaduct Basin (Next to Sebel Hotel, Foxes, Soul Bar etc)
No Charge. 12.30 – 4am (very early Saturday morning)

It’s normally a quaint and quiet bar, but not for the 210 minutes that we have it for. Everyone is welcome to party with us. The party boat docks right outside just before 1am, so be there to help ignite the party. There’ll be DJ’s, dancers, daiquiris and they’ll all be blue.

Saturday Movember 10th

Parnell Festival Of Roses (begins)
Parnell Rose Gardens, Gladstone Rd, Parnell
No Charge. 10am – 5pm

The suburb of Parnell comes alive with an explosion of colour, enjoying nature at its best - the bloom of around 4,500 rose types. It’s not only the rose gardens that blossom, there will be music, dance, street theatre and art exhibitions all over Parnell.

And/Or
Sundown Dance Party
Vilagrad Winery, 702 Rukuhia Rd, RD2, Ohaupo, Hamilton
Tickets $25 from www.iticket.co.nz or text “Sundown” to 858. 3pm – 1am

The Highlife crew are starting to hold these Sundown dance parties all over the North Island now. I’m excited about this one. I think I’ll miss the after party back in Hamilton though, as it’s not my preferred spot on the planet. But come 1am this Saturday I’ll probably be singing a different song.

And/Or
One Million Dollars
Leigh Sawmill, 142 Pakiri Rd, Leigh, Warkworth
Entry $15 on the door

People tend to not attend these events out here due to the drive, but it’s only 20-30 minutes and the Sawmill is pretty cool. One Million Dollars is an Auckland based collective with a firm reputation for energetic live performances, that carry elements of 70's soul, funk, latin and jazz, roughed up with the odd power chord. Check it out.

Sunday Movember 11th

An Evening With Michael Palin
Westlake Boys High School, Forest Hill Rd, Forest Hill
Tickets $15 from www.ticketek.co.nz. 7 – 10pm

Michael Palin established his reputation with Monty Python's Flying Circus about 30 years ago. I also remember him from A Fish Called Wanda when he played the hapless Ken. His TV travels include the memorable Around the World in 80 Days, in the footsteps of the Jules Verne story, Pole to Pole, Full Circle – travels around the perimeter of the Pacific, Sahara and Himalaya. His latest travels in New Europe (again both a book and a television series) are in countries formerly behind the Iron Curtain. Here he takes in the rich history, films exquisite sights, talks to its diverse people and makes us all jealous. He’s quite a card to. If you’re not too hung-over you must go.

Monday Movember 12th

The Mystery Of Irma Vep
Silo Theatre, Lower Greys Ave, Auckland Central
Tickets $35 from www.ticketmaster.co.nz. 7 – 10pm

Lord Edgar Hillcrest`s bosomy new bride is having a perfectly ghastly time adjusting to life on the manor. The portrait of Edgar`s previous wife is watching her every move, as is the randy, peg-legged stable boy, and the starchy, high and mighty maid with her beady little eyes. As supernatural forces encircle the foggy moors which surround Mandacrest Mansion, one question keeps returning to Lady Enid`s terrified, quivering lips...Who - or what - is IRMA VEP?
