Ready, Steady, Grow Your Mo!

I remember last years Movember attempt. I did OK, but wasn’t overly au fait with the rules of engagement. This year I am cleansed, toned, moisturised and ready. I was told once that green vegetables made your hair grow thick and fast, so I’m giving it one hell of a shot (I may even get a bit more on top – if you know what I mean).

To find out more about the launch of Movember 2007, and to read my wrap on the week, click here.

We’ve also got a couple of fantastic photo galleries from my Sleepless party on Saturday on the site. So check them out too!

Thumbs Up To

The Sleepless ticket winners were, Nadine Melhopt, Tess Woolcock, Emma Milligan, Colin Squire, Sophie Howlett, Alexander Brown, Rebecca Taylor, Chris Chen, Suzanne Miles, Desiree Pretty and Victoria Watts. They all went bananas with me at SpyBar last Saturday.
Kate Fryer won the Hootchy Kootchy tickets.
Dougal Swift and Kiran Budhia won double passes to “The Club Club” at Met and Code.
Aaron Haugh, Lauren Clough both won a sizzling bottle of Bombay Sapphire gin.

If I know Andrew (Ecstasy’s NZ Brand Manager), there will be all kinds of shenanigans. Drink his drop in more was than you can imagine, while listening to the fresh retro sounds of Grant Marshall, and critiquing the Groove Guide Grindhouse Poster Exhibition finalists. I’ll be there from half ten, or so.

And/Or
Solid Gold Heaven – Matt Hunt Art Exhibition Opening
Ivan Anthony Gallery, Cnr East Rd and K’ Rd, Newton
No Charge. 6 – 8pm

His works are stunning, slightly surreal and suggestive. Meet the mad man, shake his hand and enjoy some complimentary vino and nibbles. If you are in a position where you can invest in this guy’s works, do!

Thursday Movember 1st

Big Movember Launch
The Kingslander, 470 New North Rd, Kingsland
No Charge. 7.30 – 11pm

All denominations of males descend into The Kingsy for goodtimes. James Malcolm & The Debarcles will, MC, entertain and lay down some fine jingles. Games and prizes are plenty, dished out by lusty promo babes. On the stroke of 9pm the barbers chair comes out and the whiskers are removed, not to be touched for 30 days and nights. All this while raising money for The Prostate Cancer Foundation of NZ. The Kingsy’s also giving 25c from every pint sold during Movember.

And/Or
NBL Basketball, NZ Breakers V’s Brisbane Bullets
The North Shore Events Centre, Silverfield & Argus Pl entrances, Wairau Valley, North Shore
Tickets $5 - $25 from www.nzbreakers.co.nz. 7.30 – 9.30pm

After a good winning streak at home they went to Singapore and Aussie; they achieved mixed results. Now they are back and bolstered by the return of their influential point guard, Paul Henare, after knee surgery. I can’t see us loosing to be honest. To quote Ricky Bobby “You’re either first, or last!”

Friday Movember 2nd

Ministry Of Sound Annual Tour: Feat. John Course & Goodwill
Met & Code, 13 Shortland St, Auckland Central
Tickets $15 from www.ticketmaster.co.nz. 10pm – 6am

The original M.O.S annual DJ’s (for me) are back in town and I am not missing this one. If you wanna party this Friday check this out. Uplifting house of all varieties bundled up in a great venue. For those over 30, be warned, you will feel old, but this could be a good thing ;-)

And/Or
The Friday Night Sessions
Zanzibar, (Upstairs) Cnr K’ Rd & Pitt St, Auckland Central
No Charge. 10pm – 4am

Future star electro, house and breaks DJ's showcase their talents at K Roads hottest new club night. I’ve got a thing for leather booths, and this place has them, and an outdoor smokers’ balcony. Enjoy the $4 drinks for a few hours, then head across the road to Coherent for “Electrofest” if you like. I would.

Saturday Movember 3rd

Chillin ’07- Exclusive R&B and Hip-Hop Dance Party
Seba, 63 Fort St, Auckland Central
Tickets $20 from www.bromagazine.com/chillin07. 9pm - Late

I’m into this stuff now. CXL and Casanova are wicked DJ’s and seem to be able to mix/scratch without even looking, the infamous Manuel Bundy is spinnin to, so watch-out. The promoters are aiming this event at young professionals, no thugs, so rest easy that you’ll have a sweet night, and do anything but chill.

And/Or
Phoenix Uniform Party
Galatos Basement, 17 Galatos St, Newton
Tickets $15 presale from www.salvationparty.co.nz, or $20 on the door (if any are left). 10pm – 7am

The last Phoenix party sold-out, this one’s been brewing for months and will do the same. Expect fun and friendly faces (guys mainly), down-right dirty house and to only leaving when the sun surfaces. Don’t forget to dress up.

And/Or
Les Mills Masquerade Party ‘07
Toto’s, 53 Nelson St, Auckland Central
Tickets $25 from Les Mills City reception. 9pm – 3am

You will have to get a member to buy a ticket for you, but this will be a knock-out bash. They’ve secured all the best DJ’s in Auckland, for example, Jason Eli, Bevan Keyes, Karn Hall. Packing out 3 rooms, and last I heard over 1000 presales had been sold. Hurry, find a member and do it!

Sunday Movember 4th

UPFM Spring Break Dance Party
Aquatic Park, Parakai Springs, 150 Parkhurst Rd, Parakai
Tickets $20 from UPFM reception (Cnr Khyber Pass and Symonds St). 12 – 6pm

These guys did this just over a month ago and it went off. They only have 150 tickets so be quick. The tunes will be swift, but not savage, courtesy of $ure$hot, Nick Collings, Lukas. You CAN BYO, and will have unlimited access to the hydro-slides. Someone call health and safety.

Monday Movember 5th

Making Worlds
Auckland Art Gallery, Cnr Wellesley and Lorne St, Auckland Central
No Charge. 10am – 5pm

It’s a fantastical exhibition that looks at the way artists invent worlds of imagination and wonder. Like scientists they research, question and experiment. This show takes you to another place, a place of make-believe, where you can drift into your imagination no matter what age you are or where you're from. There are activity stations where you can make a miniature house, create a secret sound box, make badges and more.

Tuesday Movember 6th

Melbourne Cup Lindauer Lawn Party
Ellerslie Racecourse, 80 – 100 Ascot Ave, Greenlane
Tickets $40 from www.whipsnspurs.co.nz. 12 – 9pm

I was really pissed I missed Ellerslie’s event last year. It really is the only one to go to in Auckland. Dress up and be entertained all day. There won’t be thousands here just 4 - 500, so a good number to mingle, have fun and get into just a touch of mischief.

And/Or
Pasha Pres. The Melbourne Cup After Party
Pasha, Green Room & Euro, Shed 22, Princes Wharf, The Viaduct, Auckland Central
No Charge. 5pm – Late

The party will actually be going all day here, but after the big race it really heats up. Leza Corban and her band will be performing dancefloor favourites, retro tunes and soul grooves well into the night. It will be a grand old Tuesday night down here I can tell you.
